Built in considerable numbers the large 'Austerity' type 0-6-0s were a common sight on both the National Rail Network and private rail complexes, especially collieries. Designed during the war by Robert Riddles as a rough-tough locomotive for shunting and trip working almost 400 were built with the LNER ultimately acquiring 75 as their 'J94' class. Most of these saw service well in to BR days and here we have an excellent Sancheng example in early BR crest livery as No.68042. Fiited with DCC Sound and with some light weathering this is the perfect small layout locomotive.
