This beautiful antique Art Nouveau solid Silver dragonfly locket is from the Victorian era, circa 1900.
Art Nouveau was an international art style that was popular across Europe between 1890 and 1910. Art Nouveau jewellery drew it’s inspiration from the flowing organic patterns of plants and nature and paved the way for the Art Deco style.
This locket has fabulous high relief Silver workmanship on the front depicting a detailed Dragonfly hovering over beautiful Forget me not flowers.
"Forget-me-not, O Lord!" is what a poor German knight shouted as he fell into a river. He and his lady were picking flowers by the side of the river at the time when the poor knight suddenly fell in and sank to the bottom. Upon his cries to the Lord, he threw the blue posy of flowers to his loved one. Hence, the concept of remembrance, eternal love and faithfulness grow from this.
This is certainly one of a kind and would look lovely displayed on a Silver chain!
